The One That Got Away

Paul Gallagher

Eight years ago this month, Fishermen's Energy, a consortium of commercial fishermen from Cape May, Atlantic City, Barnegat Light, Point Pleasant and New Bedford, filed the first Offshore Renewable Energy Credit application under New Jersey's landmark OWEDA Law of 2010. Their proposal for five turbines in state waters off Atlantic City was fishermen owned and fishing friendly, environmentally sound and welcomed by the host community. It should have been built by 2014 but was instead rejected in 2015, and with it the opportunity to grow a local industry with local ownership and local jobs. https://www.nationalfisherman.com/viewpoints/mid-atlantic/who-wins-with-offshore-wind/
